Caving life insurance is generally available at standard terms provided that you do the activity no more than 25 times per year, are an experienced caver or are accompanied by an experience caver. If you go caving more than 25 times per year it is possible that your policy will be accepted at special terms, meaning that the premium is subject to a small loading due to your sport.
Cave diving itself is considered on an individual basis as the sport is seen as a more dangerous aspect of caving.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Cavers critical illness cover can be arranged at standard terms if the caving is infrequent, however many applications will result in an exclusion on the policy to any critical illness suffered as a direct result of your caving. There may also be an exclusion to the total permanent disability aspect of the policy, however this should not cause concern as it is more of an additional feature to the policy than a specific critical illness.
It is important to understand that whilst your policy may have exclusions, this is only for the time periods that you are actually caving, any time that you are not caving you are covered for the whole range of critical illnesses on your policy.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection for cavers may be available at normal rates depending upon the insurer that you choose. The policies that are available to you may be restricted if you have had injuries caused by your caving activities, at which point you may need to look at a policy with exclusions.
