As a martial arts instructor, you should be able to obtain life insurance in the UK with most insurers. However, some insurers can look at your application more closely due to the potential risks of your sport. The good news is that there are some insurers who should be able to consider your application for life insurance at standard terms.
There will be some insurers that increase your policy premiums due to you working in martial arts, but don’t worry as life insurance is very cheap and it’s very unlikely that the increase would be too expensive.

Martial Arts Instructor & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover for martial arts instructors is possible, though not all insurers will be able to consider your application. You may find that insurers do not offer you Total Permanent Disability as part of your critical illness cover. TPD is just one of the many conditions (typically 60 or more) that critical illness policies usually cover.
This exclusion means that if you become totally and permanently disabled, the insurer would not pay out under this type of policy. The reasoning behind this is the high risk of an injury that could prevent you from ever working as a martial arts instructor again. Most claims for critical illness cover are cancer, heart attack and stroke and your work won’t stop you being covered for these.
It’s important to carefully review the terms of any critical illness policy you’re offered. Some insurers may include an occupational exclusion, which is different from the TPD exclusion. An occupational exclusion means the insurer won’t pay out for any claim that occurs while you’re at work. This could include conditions like heart attacks, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, and more. This is a significant exclusion that you should aim to avoid if possible.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection is potentially available with some insurers when you are a martial arts instructor. The insurer will see your work as being quite high risk for making a claim, as you are so reliant on your body to do your work.
If you have had any recent injuries you can find that the insurer will not cover claims for that area, until you have been fully recovered for a few years.
