Dancers & Life Insurance

Dancers

Life insurance is all about the potential risk of a person dying. As a dancer you are typically at the peak of physical health and this is seen as a big positive for life insurance.

Your work as a dancer will generally not be any concern to the insurer and you will probably get life insurance at standard rates.

But there are some specific parts of being a dancer as an occupation in general, that can alter life insurance options for you.

To check what is available to you we will ask you:

  • Do you work as a dancer outside of the UK?
  • If you do work outside of the UK, how long do your trips abroad last for?
  • Do you every work at heights?

Insurers tend to ask some more questions about your travel if you are outside of the UK for more than a week, for work. Your options for life insurance will depend upon the countries that you are travelling to. Sometimes insurers will still offer standard terms, some might increase your life insurance premiums and there are some countries where insurers will decline your life insurance application.

Working at heights can be quite a consideration for life insurance, particularly if you will be higher than 40ft (12m). If you do, it is really important to pick an insurer that can look at your life insurance application in a positive way price wise, as some insurers will really increase your premiums.

Our advisers are here to help you find the right insurer to match your circumstances, to get you the best terms possible.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover for dancers will be looked at in a very similar way to life insurance. Travel abroad and working at heights can potentially lead to non-standard terms, but a lot of the time you should be able to get normal premiums for your critical illness cover.

There is one critical illness condition that we need to look over – Total Permanent Disability. This is one of the claimable conditions on most critical illness policies and it’s quite likely that you will not be covered for this, due to your work.

People can claim on this if their health changes and they can no longer do their current job. As your work is a dancer is so reliant upon your physical body, insurers can see this as a higher risk and not include this in your policy. You should still be covered for everything else in the normal way.

Our expert advisers will find the right critical illness policy to match your work.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection is actually the most high risk insurance on this page, for dancers. The reason for this is because your work is completely linked to your physical body and in some ways it doesn’t take much for you to be unable to work. By this I mean that if you break your leg you probably can’t work for a while, whereas someone who works at a desk all day could be back at work pretty quickly.

Some insurers see dancers as a higher risk of making an income protection claim and whilst you can potentially get normal terms of cover with them, they might price your policy more highly than other occupations. Not all insurers do this, it is really worth shopping around (or even better, we will do it for you!).

Our advisers recommend income protection for people every day and we will be able to let you know exactly what you can have. Get in touch today for a no obligation quotation.
