We understand that being told that you have been infected with hepatitis a, can be quite a surprise. It is a highly contagious condition that is often caught by eating or drinking something that you thought was ok.
Hepatitis A can simply be one of those things that happens. We are here to help support you to get the insurance that you need.
Things we need to know:
- When were you diagnosed with hepatitis A?
- What treatments did you need?
- Have you had any lasting liver damage?
- Are you now fully recovered?
Life insurance for people that have had hepatitis A, may be available at normal terms and standard rates. This is most likely if you are completely clear from the virus and have no resultant liver damage.
People that currently have hepatitis A may see a couple of different options from insurers. Some may be able to offer life insurance cover at a higher premium, some may postpone your cover until after you are free of the hepatitis, others may decline your life insurance application.
Our expert advisers are here to help you. We will search the market for you and find the right insurer to support you and your health. There are no tie-ins or obligations to use our services, you are in control the whole time.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
When it comes to insurances, insurers want to be able to fully assess the risk that someone might claim on the policy. Sometimes hepatitis A can cause liver damage and this could lead to a higher risk of you being able to claim on some parts of the policy.
The good news is that for most people that have had hepatitis A and fully recovered, with no lasting complication, cover should be available. This is most likely to be critical illness cover at normal terms.
For people that currently have hepatitis A it is more likely that specialist critical illness options will need to be looked at. This doesn’t have to mean silly prices.
Our expert advisers will be able to clearly talk you through the policies that are available to you.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Income protection may be available after you have fully recovered from having had hepatitis A. You are most likely to be offered income protection at normal terms, if you have no lasting damage to your liver.
If you currently have hepatitis A there may be some more specialised options for income protection cover, available to you. The eligibility for these policies can be quite strict and it is really important to speak with an experienced adviser for this.
Our expert advisers can talk you through all of the options for income protection, that are available.
If you are finding that income protection isn’t available to you, or the pricing isn’t right, you may want to look at an alternative. Accident, Sickness and Unemployment can replace part of your income for between 12-24 months, if you are unable to work.
This policy will cover claims if you are unable to work due to disability, long-term injury and involuntary redundancy. These policies do not take your medical history into account, when offering and pricing the cover. So you can have it regardless of having had or currently having hepatitis A.
But, most policies will exclude claims relating to medical conditions that you already have.

There are a few options that we can look at for you now. It’s really important to know that most insurers will not be able to offer you life insurance, with you having an outstanding test. This is quite a standard thing, whenever there are medical tests set to be done.
I can think of some possibilities but we will need to chat, so that I can make sure that the insurances are going to be right for you. It may be that the life insurance that’s available now will exclude any claims relating to the hepatitis A, which would include your liver.
That may not initially sound ideal, but it sometimes a good idea to look at these and then plan to review your cover once your tests results are in.
