Tenerife is a popular holiday destination with it’s gorgeous weather, long sandy beaches and natural beauty.

Travel to Tenerife for a holiday is unlikely to cause any issues when you apply for life insurance. The key things are if this is a short holiday or you are going to be there for longer.

To check your life insurance options we will ask:

When are you travelling to Tenerife?
How long are you staying in Tenerife?
Are you going to Tenerife for a holiday, to work or to live?

If you are going to Tenerife for a holiday of 30 days or less most insurers in the UK will not be concerned with your travel. They will sometimes want to know more details if you are going to Tenerife for a week or more due to work, but again it’s probably not going to affect your life insurance application as long a you remain UK resident and don’t do a high risk job.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Your application for critical illness cover will probably accepted at standard terms if you are going to Tenerife for a short holiday. Trips that are longer than 30 days will be asked about by the insurer, but it’s unlikely to cause much concern to the insurers.

General rule of thumb is that if you are UK resident and spend most of your time in the UK, that the majority of insurers will be ok with extended trips abroad.

Tenerife & Income Protection

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection applications will usually only be concerned about your travel to Tenerife if it’s longer than 30 days. This is because there starts to be queries over whether you are a UK resident and pay UK tax, which is part of the requirements to start an income protection policy here.
