Tanzania & Life Insurance

TanzaniaTravelling to Tanzania can you place you in the heart of some of the world’s largest animal reserves and Africa’s largest mountain – Mt Kilimanjaro. Both are absolute must sees on a lot of people’s bucket lists.

The great news is that if you are travelling to Tanzania for a short holiday, there is a potential for you to get life insurance at normal terms.

But, there are things that can change this and it’s important to make sure that you know how to answer the insurer’s questions correctly.

To check your life insurance options we will ask:

  • When are you travelling to Tanzania?
  • How long will you be staying in Tanzania?
  • Are you going for a holiday, to see family, or for work?

Travel to Tanzania can be seen as risky by insurers for a numbers of reasons e.g. malaria, sleeping sickness. There can also be environmental, political and social factors that insurers are regularly monitoring, to see if they think that Tanzania is safe to travel to.

If you are travelling to Tanzania for less than 30 days as a holiday, some insurers should be able to consider your application for life insurance at normal terms. The same can be said if you are going to Tanzania for work and your trip is going to last less than a week.

If you will be in Tanzania for longer than these timeframes, or you are going to an area that is seen as high risk, your life insurance may need to be placed with a specialist insurer.

Our award winning advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover is potentially harder to arrange than life insurance if you are travelling to Tanzania. This is because critical illness cover applications are assessed based upon your health and the likelihood of you developing a claimable conditions, which also includes the availability and quality of the healthcare you can access whilst abroad.

Your options for critical illness cover will be highly dependent upon the time you are due to spend in Tanzania and where you will be visiting.

Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Just like critical illness cover, income protection applications are assessed with a more strict view than life insurance. It’s because most people are far more likely to claim on income protection than they are to die unexpectedly. This combined with travel outside of the UK is often something that makes insurers look closer at a person’s application.

Depending upon the time you intend to stay in Tanzania and where you will be visiting, you might have options for income protection straight away, or it might be that it’s best to wait until you return from your trip.

Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.
