When you apply for Life Insurance, travel to Syria needs to be detailed within your application. Your application will need to detail how often you travel to Syria, how long the trips are for and if you travel for civilian or military purposes. In the past civilians have been able to secure Life Insurance with travel to Syria in their application when they have remained on an army base. However the underwriting guidelines for civilians travelling to Syria have changed and this is no longer the case. Insurers regularly change their underwriting guidelines to react to present day events within foreign countries, so it may be the case that a specialist provider may now consider cover for you. Please feel free to ring one of our trained advisers on 0800 567 7450 who will let you know what cover you are eligible for.

When travelling and working in Syria, Life Insurance applications for military personnel will generally see policy premiums increased to offset the perceived added risk of active deployment and occupational hazards. Armed Forces personnel are able to claim back the extra premium that is paid due to their occupation in many circumstances. Please visit our Armed Forces pages here for additional information.

When you are visiting Syria for a short period of time such as for a holiday or to visit family your application should be accepted at standard rates.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Armed Forces personnel applying for Critical Illness Cover will need to detail any intended deployment to Syria within the near future. It is likely that the policy will be accepted with either a critical illness exclusion or occupational exclusion. A critical illness exclusion will probably include the removal of the conditions loss of limbs, coma and traumatic head injury from the claimable illnesses set. Alternatively an occupational exclusion will be enacted, meaning that any claim made on the policy that is a direct result of your occupation will not be approved.

Critical Illness Insurance for civilians travelling to Syria has been available in the past however this is no longer available. Insurance providers are regularly changing their stances on underwriting guidelines for foreign travel and it is well worth giving us a call to find out the latest terms available on the market.

Income Protection Insurance for anyone travelling to Syria will need to be placed with a specialist provider, who may or may not consider cover. You will need to detail the amount of time you intend to stay in Syria, where you will be staying (general public, army base) and your working routines whilst there. When applying for Income Protection, travel to Syria will almost certainly mean that your policy is either accepted with an increased premium or declined.
