QatarQatar is a popular destination for business professionals and is also home to a UNESCO World Heritage site. When you travel to Qatar there can be certain questions that you are asked when you apply for life insurance.

Travelling to Qatar for a holiday or a short business trip isn’t like to affect your options for life insurance. To check this for you we will ask:

  • When are you travelling to Qatar?
  • Are you going to Qatar for work or a holiday?
  • How long with you be staying in Qatar?

Insurers tend to ask if you are travelling outside of Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, so you will probably need to mention your trip.If you are going to Qatar for a holiday of 30 days or less most insurers will have no problem with this.

For business trips of more than a week the insurer might have some additional questions. This is because they just want to check if your work will affect your residency, as this can alter your insurance options.

For most people travel to Qatar will have no bearing on the life insurance application and normal terms should be offered.

Our expert advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Your options for critical illness cover will change with how long you plan to be in Qatar for. If you have also spent quite a significant amount of time outside of the UK before your trip, this can change the best options for you.

The reason for this is that insurers assess the risks for critical illness cover based upon the economy, lifestyle and environment of the UK. When someone is outside of the UK for quite a while, they potentially need to start reviewing your application based upon these details for the other country.

Short trips should not have a bearing on your options for critical illness cover.

If you regularly work in Qatar then the insurer might ask you for details about the industry that you work in, your specific job duties and how much time you spend there across a full 12 months.

Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection is likely to be available at standard terms if your travel to Qatar is not too extensive. Most insurers will be fine with looking at your income protection application, as long as you are not spending more than 6 months out of the year in Qatar. That’s 6 months in total including any breaks that you have between trips.

If you are in Qatar for longer than this then there can still be options for income protection, you just need to pick the right insurer. This is where our advisers standout as we know which insurer will be right for you.

The main time that things can get quite tricky is if you are no longer tax resident in the UK. Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.

Review by Thomas on 12th May 2023

I am very happy with the service I received from Cura. I was recently looking for life and critical illness cover, and I came across Cura. The advisor I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helpful, and they took the time to explain everything to me in a clear and concise way. I felt very comfortable and confident throughout the process, and I was very happy with the outcome. I was particularly impressed with the level of customer service I received. I had a few questions about the policy and I was able to get in touch with a member of the Cura team who was able to answer my questions promptly and clearly. I also appreciated the fact that the Cura team kept me updated on the progress of my application and they were always available to answer any further questions I had. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others. - 5
