Are you planning on visiting the famous salt mines in Poland, or having a relaxing break in the city of Krakow? Whatever you are planning to do, taking out some life insurance is a good idea.
When you apply for life insurance, the application often asks you if you’re going abroad in the next couple of years. Travelling to Poland and should not cause any problems when you apply for life insurance.
However, due to current circumstances, we do advise checking UK government advice (see the GOV.UK travel advice feed below) on current travel to and from Poland, as a just in case. Insurers can quickly change the options you can have for life insurance, depending upon what the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office advises as places that are unsafe to travel to.
To check your life insurance options we will ask:
- When are you planning to travel to Poland?
- How long do you plan to stay in Poland?
- Where are you planning to stay in Poland?
You’re likely to find that you are offered standard terms for life insurance if you’re travelling to Poland for a holiday or a short business trip. This means your monthly premium shouldn’t increase due to your travel. Having said that, it’s wise to check this out.
Typically, holidays in Poland won’t significantly affect your life insurance application. However, if you plan to stay in Poland for more than 30 days, it’s essential to ensure you have the appropriate insurer for you. Some insurers can be a bit uncertain about offering life insurance if you are outside of the UK for more than 30 days at a time.
Our award winning advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
When traveling to Poland, you will likely find critical illness cover offered at standard terms. The duration of your stay in Poland per journey, and how many trips you do each year, will determine the best insurer for your needs.
If you travel frequently to Poland for work, selecting the appropriate insurer is crucial, as some may not be able to cover you if you travel frequently. The insurer typically needs information about what work you do in Poland, how often you go there and if you are still a UK resident.
With different conflicts in the world it is possible that some destinations can be seen as a high risk to insurers. Before you apply for critical illness cover it’s worth checking how the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) views travel to Poland at this moment in time. If the FCDO start to advise against travel to Poland, it could be that we need to look at a more specialist insurer for your critical illness cover.
Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Arranging income protection should generally be straightforward if you’re traveling to Poland for a holiday or brief business visit. We’ll need to check with you that you are a UK tax payer and UK resident to make sure that you can access the income protection policies.
There are sometimes exceptions to the UK tax payer requirement, if you have a special tax code due to your occupation.
Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.
