Philippines & Life Insurance

PhilippinesMany UK insurers should be able to offer life insurance to people going on trips to the Philippines, at standard terms.

You probably need to say that you are going on holiday to the Philippines as part of your life insurance application. If it is a short trip, the life insurer is probably not going to be concerned about your holiday.

To check your life insurance options we will ask:

  • Where are you going to travel to in the Philippines?
  • How long will your stay be?
  • Are you working whilst in the Philippines?

If you stay in the Philippines for more than 30 days, you may be asked extra details about your trip, from your insurer. This is because they want to know if you will still be classed as a UK resident so that check if you will be eligible to take cover with them.

It is possible to find that life insurance will be at non-standard terms when travelling to the Philippines, if you are frequently there for work trips, or an extended stay.

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover can often be arranged at standard terms for trips to the Philippines. General holidays and short business trips of less than 7 days don’t usually cause any concerns for insurers.

For trips lasting over 30 days and regular work trips, insurers could ask for additional details about the reasons for your stay in the Philippines. A key reason for this is that the ability for early detection to hopefully prevent a critical illness occurring and the quality of treatment if you are diagnosed, varies greatly from country to country. The insurer wants to make sure that they can properly assess your ability to get the support you need, if you are outside of the UK.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection should be available at normal terms for short trips to the Philippines. You will be asked about your job specific work tasks as part of your application, especially if your trip to the Philippines is work related.

If you travel to the Philippines for work, it is possible to be asked how much time you spend abroad each year. If you do spend plenty of time outside the UK per year, your income protection could be offered on non-standard terms, which usually means higher premiums.

When you apply for income protection, it is crucial to aim for an ‘own occupation’ policy definition. This means you get the strongest claim coverage if you are left unable to work, because it assesses your ability to perform your occupation.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
