Niger & Life Insurance
At the present time the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office advise against all but essential travel to Niger. This means that arranging life insurance is unlikely to be straightforward with mainstream insurers.
There is a potential that some specialist insurers could consider applications for life insurance, but there will be strict eligibility for the policy.
To check your life insurance options we will ask:
- When are you planning on travelling to Niger?
- Are you going to Niger to visit family or for another reason?
- How long will you be staying in Niger?
- What are the exact locations that you will be visiting in Niger?
Most insurers will unfortunately decline applications for life insurance if you are travelling to Niger. Specialist insurers might be able to consider your application but this will be highly dependent upon where you are travelling to in Niger.
Life insurance with specialist insurers can work really well for some people. However, it is a good idea to be prepared that the life insurance is not going to be particularly cheap. You might even find that some insurers offer you life insurance, but there is an exclusion for any claims that relate to your travel and stay within Niger.
Whilst it is not ideal some people may choose to delay applying for their life insurance, until they have returned from their visit to Niger. Your past travel is often asked within life insurance applications and it could still influence your options.
Our award winning advisers are here to look through these specialist insurance options for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
There are times that international insurers will not be able to offer life insurance or critical illness cover to certain regions, such as Africa, due to regulations and financial rules that are in place. We can look into these options for you, so that you can find out quickly what insurances might be available to you.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Similarly to life insurance, critical illness cover is also unlikely to be available whilst you are planning on travelling to Niger. Unlike life insurance though, there are no particular options available with specialist insurers for you to look at.
There are some policies that you might see that offer alternatives that cover you for cancer only, or potentially significant illness that is caused by accidents. Whilst these are quite simple and straightforward to arrange, they often have specific exclusions regarding claims in what are considered to be high risk situations.
Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Your options for income protection will be very limited until you have returned from your trip to Niger. Full income protection providers will not consider your application whilst you are planning on travel to Niger.
There are policies known as Accident and Sickness cover that are quick and easy to apply for, but, they can include very specific exclusions about travel outside of the UK. I strongly suggest that if you were to consider arranging an Accident and Sickness policy that you seek advice from one of our advisers, who can make sure that you know what you are and are not covered for.
Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.
