IraqWhen you apply for life insurance, travel to Iraq will usually need to be in the application. UK insurers do not see Iraq as a country that people generally travel to, so they like to know a little more detail about why you are going to Iraq. To help you find the right life insurance for you our advisers will ask you:
  • When are you travelling to Iraq?
  • Are you travelling to Iraq for a holiday, to visit family or for work?
  • How long will you be going to Iraq for?
UK insurers will also generally want to know how often you will visit Iraq in the next couple of years, and if you are travelling as a civilian or military personnel. Civilians who work and stay at an army base can potentially get life insurance with a few providers, but choosing the right insurer is absolutely key.

Life insurance applications for Armed Forces personnel in Iraq might find that some insurers increase the premiums, due to the higher risk associated with their deployment and occupational duties. In many circumstances the extra premiums can be claimed back through the MOD as it has only been applied due to your occupation.

When you are visiting Iraq for a short period of time such as for a holiday or to visit family your application might be accepted at standard rates.

Our advisers are here to make sure that your life insurance application is placed with the right insurer for you.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover for people travelling to Iraq can be tricky to arrange and it’s essential to find the right insurer for you.

If you are travelling to Iraq for a short period of time, usually 30 days or less, there can sometimes be critical illness policies available to you. These are with specialist insurers and it’s important to go through exclusions that can come with these policies.

Armed Forces personnel who are deployed to Iraq will probably find that they have a critical illness or occupation exclusion on their policy. A critical illness exclusion will be applicable to certain conditions such as loss of limbs, coma and traumatic head injury, as they are seen to be of a higher chance of occurring due to your occupation. Occupation exclusions can be placed on the policy which will mean that any critical illness caused by your work will not be covered by the policy.

Our advisers will give you a clear insight into what critical illness cover you can have, so that you get the best quality possible for your cicumstances.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection for civilians  travelling to Iraq can be difficult to arrange. The application will need to be placed with a specialist insurance provider who may consider the cover.

Your income protection application will need to detail the duration of your stay in Iraq, how you will travel whilst there, where you stay and your daily routines whilst there.

If you work in the army you will find that income protection is very difficult to arrange. This policy type is usually only available to military personnel that are on sabbatical.
