Iceland & Life Insurance
There is a good chance that you will get life insurance with no added premiums or exclusions when travelling to Iceland. Insurers don’t view Iceland as a particularly risky place to travel to.
There are some activities that you could do in Iceland that might make your journey stand out a bit more to insurers.
To check your life insurance options we could ask:
- When are you planning on going to Iceland?
- What is the reason that you’re going to Iceland e.g. work or holiday?
- How long will you be in Iceland for?
- Are you going to be sailing or going away from the mainland for whale watching?
Holidays to Iceland will probably not affect your life insurance application. If you plan on spending over 30 days in Iceland, we may need to find a different insurer that suits your needs better. Similarly, if you are going to Iceland for more than a week for work, this can need a bit more research to make sure your life insurance goes to the right insurer to accept this.
If you are going whale watching, this isn’t something that is specifically asked for by insurers, but it could be hidden in one of their sports related questions. They will often ask if you are taking part in any high risk sports and sailing can fall into this, even if they don’t specifically state it. Going whale watching is unlikely to cause any changes to your life insurance options, but, it’s best to check this with the insurers underwriters, so that everyone moves ahead with a very clear picture of your circumstances.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover for people travelling to Iceland is likely to be offered at normal terms. The amount of time that you are in Iceland each year will determine which insurer is best for you.
If you travel to Iceland regularly for work, it might be that a more specialist insurer is needed for your critical illness cover. They will want details about your trip, as in how often you go, and what you do whilst you are there.
Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
For people travelling to Iceland income protection is probably going to be fine to arrange. The amount of time that you are going to spend in Iceland will be a key factor in choosing the correct insurer for you.
If you are required to go to Iceland due to work, this could affect your income protection application. We might need to ask you details about whether you pay UK tax or not, just to make sure you are eligible for the policy.
Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
