Cuba & Life Insurance

CubaUK travellers are advised against all but essential travel to Cuba, which can potentially make getting life insurance a bit trickier. Your options for life insurance will highly depend upon how long you are travelling to Cuba for and why.

To check your life insurance options we will ask:

  • When are you travelling to Cuba?
  • How long will you stay in Cuba?
  • Are you going to Cuba as part of your work, or for a holiday?

You can find that some mainstream insurers will decline or postpone your life insurance application, when you plan to travel to Cuba. Not all insurers, but some. You can sometimes find that you if are going on a holiday of less than 30 days, or less than a week for work, that you have more options for life insurance.

It might be that a more specialist insurance is needed to be put in place, until you have returned from Cuba. This can sometimes mean that the life insurance is quite a bit more expensive, but that isn’t always the case. Some specialist insurers don’t charge specifically higher premiums and will instead set a maximum amount of insurance that you can apply for.

There are quite a lot of options and it’s a really good idea to speak with an adviser to pick a tailored approach for you.

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover might be unavailable with UK insurers, if you are planning a trip to Cuba. The amount of time you will spend in Cuba and activities you plan on doing there, will influence whether you can arrange critical illness cover.

There are alternatives to critical illness cover that you can look at, but they are quite different and it’s important to be clear on what you are and are not covered for.

You could find some that cover you for significant illness’ caused by accidents or cancer only. These are simple to arrange but will come with exclusions on claims that are considered high risk situations.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection options will likely be limited until you return from Cuba. Full income protection providers will want to know quite a few details if you are going to Cuba for work. This can include checking where you will be staying, what your duties will be doing whilst there and clarity as to why your trip needs to take place.

If you are going to Cuba for a short holiday or business trip, there might be income protection options with some insurers, but research will be absolutely key to make sure that you get a good price and no unwelcome exclusions.

There are Accident and Sickness policies that are easy to apply for, but can come with very specific exclusions for travel outside the UK.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
