Cameroon & Life Insurance
Some parts of Cameroon are considered quite high-risk at the moment, and the UK Foreign Office advises against travel to some areas. Because of that, a few insurers might automatically decline life insurance cover if you’re heading to those regions.
That said, it’s not a definite no from all of the insurers. Some of them may be able to consider your application for life insurance depending on your travel plans in Cameroon.
To check your life insurance options we will ask:
- Where exactly are you going in Cameroon?
- How long will you be staying there for?
- Are you travelling for work or leisure?
Insurers regularly monitor travel advice guidance, political, social and environmental changes within countries. This can mean that options for life insurance can change very quickly.
Where an insurer can consider your application for life insurance with your travel to Cameroon, they will probably ask for the specific locations you will visit, how you will be travelling whilst in the country and the purpose of your trip.
In situations like this, we sometimes look at specialist insurers who are more used to dealing with travel to higher-risk countries.
Our award winning advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
As with life insurance, because some areas of Cameroon are considered high-risk and it’s advised to not travel to those areas, some insurers may not be able to offer Critical Illness cover to you.
However, not all insurers take the same approach. Some may still consider offering cover—depending on where you’re going and the reason for your travel there.
To look at your options, insurers will typically want to understand the exact areas you’ll be visiting and whether the trip is for business or leisure.
It might be that more specialist policies are suitable to you, but be careful as some can have extensive exclusions for when you are outside of the UK.
Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Depending on where you’re going to in Cameroon, will affect which insurers are the best to approach for income protection. It is quite likely that the insurers will postpone your income protection application until you have returned from your travel to Cameroon.
Specialist insurers, however, can be considered, and they’ll need to have more info on why you’re going to Cameroon, how long for and the reasons why.
Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.
