Burundi & Life Insurance

BurundiAt this time, it is advised not to travel to Burundi unless absolutely necessary. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office considers Burundi to be of significant risk to travel to.

Mainstream insurers will most likely decline your life insurance application, but specialist insurers may be able to consider life insurance for you. This would come with a very strict eligibility for the policy.

To check your life insurance options we will ask:

  • When will you be travelling Burundi?
  • How long will you stay in Burundi?
  • What precise locations are you visiting in Burundi?
  • What is your reason for travelling to Burundi?

it is highly likely that most insurers will decline any applications for life insurance if you travel to Burundi. Your options for life insurance highly depend upon how long you will be travelling to Burundi for.

Specialist insurers may consider your life insurance application, but there might be certain limits to your policy. You could find that the insurer says the life insurance must be a maximum of 10 years and/or a limit on how much you be insured for.

Life insurance with a specialist insurer can be really effective for some people. You should be prepared that your options for life insurance, where available, will be at higher premiums. If you are looking at life insurance and it’s seeming quite cheap, make sure there are no hidden exclusions related to your travel!

We know higher premiums never sound ideal but you could always delay applying for life insurance until after you have returned from Burundi. Once your trip is over, your options for life insurance should open up. But, bear in mind that past travel can affect life insurance applications for a few years, so you might still need a more specialist approach.

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

As with life insurance, critical illness cover is unlikely to be available with most UK insurers while you have plans to travel to Burundi.

Some policies may still be offered to you, whether that is a significant illness caused by an accident or potentially a diagnosis of cancer. These are normally very straightforward to get, but will have specific exclusions regarding what you can and can’t claim.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

You will have very limited income protection options until you return from Burundi. Most income protection providers will not accept your application when you have upcoming plans to travel to Burundi. If you are going for a short trip, there may be some options, but research is absolutely key as your application will be declined with most insurers.

There are some policies called Accident and Sickness cover that are quick and easy to apply for, but can include very specific exclusions when travelling outside of the UK.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
