Bulgaria Life Insurance
When you are planning to go outside of the UK and you’re apply for life insurances, insurers will ask you about it.
They want to check if you are planning on travelling to somewhere that is an area of conflict, to make sure that you are not going somewhere dangerous.
When insurers ask you about your future travel it is usually what you plan on doing in the next two years. This can sometimes be confusing as you might be thinking of going abroad at some point, but you’re not sure where, or you might have definite plans in place. The insurers are asking you about what you are intending to do. So if you say no to travelling abroad now because you have nothing planned, but then do book a holiday, this is usually fine.
To check your life insurance options we will ask:
- When are you planning to travel to Bulgaria?
- Are you going to Bulgaria for holiday or work?
- How long will you be staying in Bulgaria for?
Bulgaria is not seen as a high risk country to travel to at the present time. With a lot of insurers you will not need to tell then if you are going to Bulgaria if you are travelling for less than 30 days for a holiday, or less than a week for work. some insurers will ask if you are travelling to countries outside of Western Europe at which point you will need to say yes, but it should not cause any significant concern to the insurer.
It is likely that you will be able to arrange life insurance at standard rates.
Our award winning advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to, to make sure that you get the best life insurance cover.
British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
When you apply for critical illness cover it is quite likely that you will be able to buy this at standard terms. This means no premium increases or exclusions based upon your travel.
The times that this might not be the case is if you are planning on being in Bulgaria for more than 30 days for a holiday or more than a week for work. The insurer will just want to make sure that they feel that your travel outside of the UK, does not impact your ability to be eligible for the cover as UK resident.
Our advisers know which insurers to place your application with so that you get the best terms for critical illness cover.
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Travelling to Bulgaria should not cause you any issues for arranging income protection. The times that it can sometimes cause an issue is if you are going to be quite a bit of work there. The insurer will want to check that you are going to be paying UK tax for you to be eligible for the policy, along with some other factors.
There can be exceptions to the UK tax payer rules, but these are limited to certain occupations.
Our expert advisers will listen to your circumstances and let you know the best way to protect your income.

“Highly recommended service. Nick was really knowledgeable and patient. Once we had done the initial consultation and I was able to explain what I was looking for and what was important to me, Nick went away to find suitable quotes as well as speaking with insurers directly to make sure they met my needs. Thanks Nick!” - 5
