Hang GlidingHang gliders life insurance for those who are doing a one-off event will generally be accepted at standard terms. The insurer you apply to will be interested if you are a member of a national association, are a qualified instructor, whether you take part in international or national events and the amount of times you glide per year.

If you fly infrequently you may find life insurance is available at standard terms with some insurers. For those who take part in more more frequent flights the policy is likely to be accepted at special terms in which the policy premium increases incrementally with the approximate figure of flights that are due to occur.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness insurance for hang gliders is viewed under slightly stricter underwriting guides than life insurance. For those who are doing a single flight critical illness cover can often be sourced at ordinary rates. Depending upon your instructor status, member of an accredited association and number of flights per year you may be able to source critical illness cover at standard terms. If you are a frequent hang glider, it is possible that any application for critical illness cover  will be accepted at special terms, in which any illness caused by your pastime will be excluded from the policy claims set.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection for hang gliders can be accepted at ordinary, with the correct insurer and policy. When you apply for income protection it will be important to detail any injuries you have had from your hobby, as this can alter the range of policies available to you.

Instead of income protection you may wish to consider accident, sickness and unemployment cover that provides a regular monthly income in the event that you are unable to work due to disability, injury or involuntary redundancy. Quite often accident, sickness and unemployment plans do not come with exclusions in regards to hazardous pastimes. The plan will pay you a monthly benefit anywhere from 12 to 24 months depending on the policy terms that you choose to opt for.
As with any hazardous activity or sport it is always best to speak with a qualified adviser to ensure you take out the correct plan. You can call us on 0800 567 7450.
