Window Fitters & Life Insurance

Window fitterBeing a window fitter is seem as more risky to insurers than say working in an office, but good news, you should be able to get life insurance at standard terms as a window fitter.

There are a couple of important points the insurer will want to know about your occupation and you will be asked some specific questions.

To double check your the best life insurance options for you, our advisers may ask:

  • What is the maximum height you will work at?
  • What is the usual height you will work at?
  • What is the maximum weight that you will carry?
  • Are you required to travel abroad for your work?

When you have to work over 40 feet, you will be asked to detail this by most insurers in the UK. The premiums for your life insurance can change if you work at heights frequently. Life insurance in itself is often very cheap, so when the insurers do charge more cover due to your occupation, it’s often nowhere near as much as people think it will be.

If your work is primarily below 40 feet it’s pretty likely that insurers will offer you life insurance at normal rates (no price increase).

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

As well as life insurance, critical illness cover might be available  at standard terms for window fitters. You will have to tell the insurer about the heights that you need to work at as a window fitter.

You may find that the the claimable condition – Total Permanent Disability – is not offered with your critical illness cover. This is quite common when someone is working in an occupation that does have a higher risk of causing some of the insured circumstances e.g. traumatic head injury, paralysis. You will still be covered for all of the main conditions including cancer, heart attack and stroke.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection policies are available with quite a lot of insurers, but as you are a window fitter the pricing will can be very different depending upon who you apply to.

Its very important you apply for an own occupation definition with the policy, because you will be assessed on your ability to work as a window fitter. With other definitions the claim criteria becomes a lot broader and it does become harder to be able to make a claim.

Income protection for window fitters will typically be written with a deferment period of 1 day, 1 week, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 13 weeks, 26 weeks or 52 weeks. The deferment period is the time you wait from being unable to work, to then getting the benefit payout. You should think about employability benefits, budget and your savings when making the decision to which deferment period you want.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
