Marine Biologist & Life Insurance

Marine Biologist

At university our MD Kathryn was split between the Business School and Marine Biology department, she loved it. Kathryn’s research in marine biology was more to do with social networking characteristics and applying that in business models, rather than being in the sea.

She was incredibly proud of herself when she got a question right watching the QI show, asking what do blue whales eat? Krill!

Life insurance for marine biologists has the potential to be accepted by insurers at standard terms.

To be able to find out the best insurance options for you we need to ask you a couple questions:

Just to double check, our advisers may ask:

  • How much of your working week is spent submerged underwater?
  • What is the greatest depth that you will go to?
  • Do you use mixed air?
  • Do you dive solo or as part of a group?
  • Do you need to use explosive materials?
  • Is your diving within the UK or abroad?

If you work is based in an office, or laboratory setting, you will likely find that most insurers can offer you life insurance at standard pricing.

Your insurer will want to know if there is any experimental equipment being used in your diving, if you are doing this kind of work. If parts of your job pose as risky to insurers, the life insurance they offer you might be at non-standard terms (premium increase).

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness insurance may be available at normal terms for marine biologists. If you are diving as part of your work, this can require extra research depending upon where you dive and what you are doing whilst diving.

You might find that some critical illness policies come with an occupational exclusion. Unfortunately, this means that if you were to become critically ill as a result of activities while diving for your occupation, you will not be allowed to place a claim on the policy.

We know this doesn’t sound amazing but remember that if you are diagnosed with one of the named conditions in the policy claims set outside of your job, then you should be able to place a successful claim on the policy.

The critical illness application does need to detail areas of dangerous activities that you actively take part in e.g. wreck diving, etc. Where diving is a part of your role you can find that some insurers increase your policy premiums quite significantly.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

If you want income protection as a marine biologist you might need to speak with a more specialist insurer, if you are diving, or outside of the UK quite a lot. We will tailor your income protection policy through the help from a specialist insurer, to make sure that you are protected in the right way.

There is a chance that your monthly premium for income protection will be greater than someone who works in a less hazardous job. This will depend upon your specific job duties.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.

Awesome customer experience. Kathryn was so helpful and patient throughout the process, explaining all the various options available to help me make an informed decision. Not only this but there were some challenges with my medical which caused the premium to change and she dealt with all of this noise quietly in the background on my behalf before helping me understand the changes and decide whether I wanted to continue. Would highly recommend, not just a professional service but very caring and empathetic too. - 5
