Decorators & Life Insurance

DecoratorMost insurance providers should be able to offer life insurance for decorators at standard terms. There are a couple of key questions that the insurer will ask about your job, to make sure there are not any problems.

Just to double check, our advisers may ask:

  • What is the usual height that you work at?
  • What is the maximum height you could work at?
  • How much of your working week is spent on manual, admin and supervisory tasks?
  • Are you operating heavy machinery?
  • Are you regularly lifting heavy loads?
  • Is you work solely within the UK, or do you travel abroad for work?

If your job is requiring you to work 40 feet and over, this could be something that insurers want detailed in life insurance applications. Working high up on a regular basis may influence the premiums insurers are willing to give you for life insurance.

If you are required to work at 40 feet or lower regularly it’s likely that insurers will offer you life insurance at a normal rate (no increase in price).

Light and heavy manual lifting can also have an impact upon which insurer will be best for you and the the pricing of your life insurance. Carrying ladders, plaster mix, wallpaper, etc. can all add to the amount of lifting work that an insurer could ask you about. Usually insurers ask what percentage of your work involves light or heavy lifting, administration or supervisory work, so it can be really useful if you have this breakdown to hand.

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

As with life insurance, critical illness cover applications should be accepted at normal rates for decorators with most insurers. Again, you do need to provide your insurer with details of significant heights that you are needed to work at for your job.

Working at heights can increase the risk of there being an accident and you claiming on certain parts of the critical illness policy, which is why insurers want to know more about it. If you tend to work under 12 metres (40 feet) then you can often find good quality options for critical illness cover.

The key thing is to make sure that there isn’t an occupational exclusion placed on your critical illness cover.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Decorators income protection policies should be available with insurance providers, with an own occupation definition. It is important that you apply for an own occupation definition for the policy, as this will mean that at the point of claim you are assessed on your ability to work as a decorator.

Other occupation definitions are much broader and harder to claim on.

Income protection for decorators will be written with a deferment period of 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 13 weeks, 26 weeks or 52 weeks. This is the amount of time that you must wait from the start of you being ill and unable to work, to receiving the benefit pay out. If you are self-employed, it’s often a good idea to look at a short deferred period, so that the financial support kicks in quickly for you.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
