Civil Engineers & Life Insurance

Civil Engineer

Your life insurance options should be pretty straightforward as a civil engineer. Your occupation is not seen as particularly risky, but there are some potential parts of your role that insurers might be unsure of.

To find out which insurer will be right for you, our advisers may ask:

  • How much of your time is spent in an office versus being on site visits?
  • Do you ever work at heights (over 12 metres)?
  • Is your work based solely in the UK?
  • If you do travel abroad, where are you going to and how long for?

Civil engineers do a broad range of activities as part of their work and your options for life insurance will depend upon your actual job tasks, rather than your job title.

If you are more in the design management side of things, primarily desk based, then you are likely to get life insurance at standard terms.

If you are travelling a lot for work and doing site visits, you might find that your life insurance premiums are increased. This can happen with some insurers if you work outside of the UK for more than a week at a time and/or if you are going to higher risk locations. The key thing is some insurers, not all.

You can also find that if you need to work at heights, while you are doing assessments, this can alter which insurer is going to be best for you.

Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

If you are mainly office based and in the UK you are likely to get critical illness cover with normal terms.

The main times that you could see changes to options for critical illness cover is if you are travelling outside of the UK for work or working at heights.

Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Your occupation as a civil engineer is not seen as particularly risky for income protection, so you should be able to get standard terms with most insurers.

Again, work abroad or working at heights can alter which insurer will be best for you. When it comes to income protection there can be quite significant differences in price between insurers, so research is really important.

Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
