Carcinoma In Situ & Life Insurance
Carcinoma in situ is a diagnosis that most UK insurers will ask about in their life insurance applications.
There is usually a question in life insurance applications that asks about whether you have ever had cancer. The good news is that there are often option for life insurance after you have recovered from the treatment for the carcinoma in situ.
To get things started we will ask you:
- What type of carcinoma in situ did you have?
- When were you diagnosed with carcinoma in situ?
- What was the size of the carcinoma in situ?
- What treatment for carcinoma in situ did you receive?
- Are you still undergoing treatment?
Your options for life insurance will depend upon the type of carcinoma in situ you have had, the size and how long it has been since your diagnosis and treatment. It might be that life insurance could be available to you within 6 months of your diagnosis, other times it could be 2 years or longer.
The longer the timeframe since your diagnosis and treatment for cancer, the better the options tend to be for life insurance. There are times that we standard terms (normal pricing) for life insurance, withing 6 months of a diagnosis.
There are also some circumstances where the life insurance premiums can be higher for a while. Insurers might postpone or decline your application for life insurance, if your diagnosis was quite recent.
Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.
Carcinoma In Situ & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Carcinoma in situ can potentially be a claimable condition on a critical illness policy, so if you already have this insurance, double check if you can make a claim.
Because insurers can see carcinoma in situ as a claimable condition, it does mean that if you have had this diagnosis, that the insurers want to see some time pass before they consider your critical illness application.
You can find that the insurers will increase your premiums for a while after your diagnosis and treatment. It is also quite likely that there will be an exclusion for clams linked to cancer in the location where you had the carcinoma in situ. Some insurers might place a full cancer exclusion on the policy and it’s best to try and avoid this.
Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.
Carcinoma In Situ & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
Insurers will want to know how much time you have taken off work due to your diagnosis, if any, and how long it has been since you’ve been back to full working hours.
Insurers will typically want you to have completed your treatment before they can consider your application for income protection. Once they are able to consider your application, it is quite likely that your income protection will be offered with an exclusion. This could be an exclusion for the location where you had the cancer, or a full cancer exclusion, and it’s really important to shop around and find the better of these two options, if possible.
Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.

What is Carcinoma In Situ?
Carcinoma in situ is diagnosed when abnormal cells are discovered in part of the body, that have the potential to become or have started to become cancer cells. When carcinoma in situ is diagnosed the abnormal cells have stayed in the location where they have developed, and have not spread to other parts of the body.
