Wow! I can’t even begin to describe the beam on my face when I reached this latest milestone.

There are podcasts with far greater listener numbers, I know I’m not going to be at the top of any podcast charts any time soon, but I’m so proud of how many people are listening to the Practical Protection Podcast.

I have been doing this podcast for 4 years to improve understanding on how protection insurance products work, especially when a person has medical disclosures that insurers ask about. I certainly owe thanks to Matt Rann, Roy McLoughlin and Andrew Wibberley who have all been involved in sharing their insights into the ways that the protection insurance industry works. Plus the many many guests that have joined us over 112 episodes.

So I chat Matt Rann, a consultant underwriter with over 40 years experience, to get into the deep details over what insurers want to know about medical disclosures and how it can affect options for life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection.

There are a lot of insurers and insurance products in the UK and it can be really difficult to know where to start. There is no one insurer that is the best of the best. Insurers do offer different options for life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection to each other, but ultimately it is your personal circumstances that will determine which insurer is best for you.

There is often a lot of confusion about what different insurance policies actually do. I have had quite a few occasions where accountants and tax advisers have told someone to get one type of insurance, but then when they speak with me we determine they need a completely different type altogether. Protection Insurance Market Commentary

There are so many parts of the insurance industry that it’s quite hard to keep an eye on everything that is happening. There are brokers, insurers, reinsurers, developments around the world that influence what happens here in the UK and vice versa. I am  pleased to be involved in different groups across the UK insurance market to help piece together ways that we can improve protection insurance for all.

I sit on BIBA’s Executive Committee for Signposting services, the IFOA’s Mental Health Working Group, and the Access to Insurance Working group that works with the Government Disability and Access Ambassador for the Insurance Sector to help shape the future of insurance. There are incredible people doing work in this space and I’m very fortunate to have had some of them join me on the podcast.
