Cricketers & Life Insurance
As a cricketer your life insurance application will be looked at favourably in terms of your health, as you are at peak fitness, but, your travel could pose as a slight issue.
Insurers have quite specific eligibility rules if you work outside of the UK, which can influence who you should approach for life insurance.
To double check the best approach for life insurance for you, our advisers may ask:
- Do you travel outside the UK to play cricket?
- If you travel outside of the UK to play cricket, where are you travelling to and for long?
- Have you had any injuries in recent years that have caused you to take time off work?
As a professional cricketer you may get life insurance at standard rates with some insurers, but this will be highly dependent upon whether you are outside of the UK regularly or for long periods of time.
Even working outside of the UK for more than a week for work, can affect your options for life insurance with some insurers.
Don’t worry, if your travel is a concern to UK insurers, we are able to access international insurers for you, who should be able to consider your application for life insurance.
Our award winning advisers are here to give you peace of mind with the right life insurance policy, so that if the worst happens, your loved ones will be taken care of.
Cricketers & Critical Illness Cover
Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.
Critical illness cover may be available for professional cricketers, but eligibility can be even stricter than it is for life insurance. Again, this depends upon if you are travelling outside of the UK significantly as part of your work.
If you are able to arrange critical illness cover with a UK insurer, it is unlikely that you will have Total Permanent Disability included in your policy. This is one claimable condition on the policy and it is directly linked on whether you become so ill, that you can never work in your current occupation ever again. It is generally seen as too risky for insurers to offer this to professional athletes. You may wish to consider supplementing critical illness cover with career ending injury insurance.
If you find that UK insurers cannot consider your application for critical illness cover, then international providers might be the right option for you. The quality of healthcare in your destination country, will play a pivotal role in whether this insurance will be possible or not.
Our expert advisers are trained to find the critical illness policy that matches you and your needs, so that if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, you can focus upon you rather than worrying about money.
Cricketers & Income Protection
Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.
It will be highly unlikely that as a professional cricketer you will be able to arrange income protection with a mainstream UK insurer. Athletes are seen as a very high risk for claims. As an example, an office worker is seen as quite low risk as they can probably still do their job with a broken ankle, or any number of other situations. However, as a professional cricketer, there are a lot more situations where an illness or injury will prevent you from working.
It is more common for professional athletes to look at career ending injury insurance.
Protecting your income is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your financial future and our award winning advisers are here to sort it for you.
